Algarve, Portugal
nature
The Algarve is famous not only for its coastline but also for its unique landscapes.
Away from the coast, the landscape becomes more hilly, passing into the Serra de Monchique mountains. Here you will find valleys with citrus groves, olive trees and cork oaks. The coast is also home to salt marshes and lagoons, such as the Ria Formosa, which are important ecosystems with rich biodiversity. The river valleys create fertile areas where various plant species grow. In spring and summer, the Algarve comes alive with many flowering plants such as lavender, rosemary, wild orchids and various types of wildflowers.
