According to AHETA's monthly data, the average room occupancy rate in Algarve hotels in July was 83.6 per cent, just 0.3 percentage points lower than in the same month in 2023.
In 2023, the tourism sector in Portugal's southern region reported more than 6 million tourists, 21 million overnight stays and €1.5bn in hotel revenue. The Algarve's hotel occupancy rate is over 60 per cent. According to flight and hotel search engine Jetcost, cited by TNEWS, the number of requests for accommodation in Portugal for July 2024 has increased by 10 per cent compared to July 2023. The government's initiative is to reduce short-term rentals of private property. Commercial property occupancy is projected to increase by more than 26% in 2025.
